Finding the Stand Site That Produced 5 Bucks That All Scored 150 or More

The next year, in 2011, I set up two tree stands in that same tree and took my 15-year-old son, Jake, to hunt there. As fate would have it, the buck Joe White wouldn’t let me shoot the year before started coming toward Jake. My son took that buck. This was his third deer taken with a bow, and his second bow buck. He scored 158 inches P&Y.

In about 2005, we increased the number of does we were taking off the land and started planting corn and soybeans for the deer. We also planted green fields with Mossy Oak BioLogic. We had some CRP property in the club, so we started taking better care of that. We have 240 acres on the farm and an adjoining 600 acres where we have permission to hunt, but we don’t plant any food plots there.

Family Is What Hunting’s All About

As I remember that hunt, what I remember most is my dad and I in the woods together, trailing that buck, finding him, sharing the experience of taking the biggest deer of my life and dragging out the buck. I guess this is where I learned that the real joy of hunting is spending time with your children and sharing experiences that last a lifetime.

Grow and Harvest Trophy Bucks

One of the most-significant hunts I’ve ever had was when Mossy Oak came out with the Treestand pattern. I do a lot of late-season bowhunting here in Iowa’s hardwood forests. One year I was sitting in my tree stand late in November, and our area didn’t have much snow cover. I had a buck walking straight toward my stand from a direction I hadn’t expected. As he came to me, he looked into the tree.

How Cancer Impacted the Boston Red Sox’s Jon Lester and His Never Quit Foundation

A couple years ago, my wife, Farrah, and I started a foundation called Never Quit to support pediatric cancer research. Because of having had cancer myself, Farrah and I wanted to be involved in helping to find a cure for adult cancer and pediatric cancer. After the birth of our first son, we created the Never Quit Foundation for pediatric cancer.

Jon Lester Says Hunting is More Than Taking Game

I’ve learned that hunting is less about taking the animals and more about the people you’re with, the time you share together and the memories and relationships that come out of a hunt. In 2010, Tim and I went on anther hunt together in Alabama. Once again I was able to spend time with my friend Tim Anderson, meet more Mossy Oak people and become more involved in the company.
