I quickly put my pack on a downed log and got in the prone position. When I looked through my scope, I couldn’t see anything, because the scope was full of snow. I cleaned my scope as quickly as I could, then got back down and got ready for the shot. Through my riflescope, I aimed between the deer’s hindquarter and his last rib.

When the bucks stood-up, they didn’t offer any shots. We watched them walk and then trot away, going from 10 to 200 yards without giving Julie a shot. Finally the bucks stopped at some cedar trees. Two of the three bucks bedded-down in the shade where we could watch them. The biggest buck remained standing in the sun.

When we were about 400-yards out, glassing the bear from the boat, we spotted an eddy where the wind was swirling in front of the boat. For no reason at all, the wind turned 180 degrees and was now hitting us in the face, giving us the perfect wind to stalk the bear. We decided Julie was getting more and more birthday presents as this hunt went along.

The way our staff works is we look for certain areas of the country that need someone to help promote in stores and at events. I get applications all the time, and sometimes we just don't need any help in those areas because the positions are filled. It does not mean you are not qualified. I always contact my applicants and tell them either way.
