“Critical.” That was the word that Mossy Oak BioLogic’s Bobby Cole used when discussing the importance of designing a particular food plot around a particular tree.
“Honestly,” said Cole, “I think Mark Drury says it best: Mark is always talking about the importance of tailoring your food plot to a specific tree. That has really worked well for us. Whenever possible, design your plot around a certain tree or trees that are favorable for the wind and allow you to sneak in and out without bumping deer. A lot of hunters overlook the importance of getting out of the stand without tipping their hand to the deer. If you climb out of a stand and are exposed to 10 or 12 deer feeding out in a food plot, they know exactly where you are. Pick a tree that will allow you the ability to disturb the area as little as possible.
“To assist with that sneaking-in and sneaking-out part, I highly recommend planting our new-for-2013 Blind Spot. We plant this in strips because it grows so tall and gives us the ability to be virtually invisible to deer as we enter and exit our stands. Plus, this product gives you a place to put in a ground blind if there isn’t a suitable tree in the area. Blind Spot simply helps you kill more deer because it keeps deer unaware of your presence as you enter and exit your stand sites.
“It also helps, especially if you’re hunting out of that perfect tree in a big food plot to spray M.E.E.N Green. Basically, this product sweetens the plants and attracts deer. Spray it in a 20-yard area around your food plot and draw those deer in.”
