Legends of the Outdoors, founded by Garry Mason, has announced its 2013 Hall of Fame inductees and special award winners. The Legends of the Outdoors National Hall of Fame was established to recognize those outdoor sportsmen and sportswomen who, through countless hours of hard work and devotion to the outdoors, in both hunting and fishing, have played an integral part in setting the standards and guidelines for the rest of the outdoor world to follow.
There are eight inductees in the 2013 Hall of Fame, including Mossy Oak Sr. Vice President Ronnie “Cuz” Strickland. The other honorees include: avid turkey hunter Ray Eye, whitetail hunter/artist Dick Idol, wildlife artist Tom Morgan Crain, crappie fisherman Sam Heaton, professional bass angler Dianna Clark, outdoor writer Don Worth and Charles Dunkin, chairman/CFO of Dunkin-Lewis Inc.
Fox Haas will be receiving the American Outdoorsman of the Year award for his work in outdoor conservation. Other special award winners are Mike Stockdale (Davy Crockett Trailblazer award) and Dale Kelley (Tennessee Sportsman of the Year).
The 2013 Legends of the Outdoors induction ceremony will take place August 24 in Nashville, Tenn., aboard the General Jackson Showboat/Music City Queen, which will be docked on the Cumberland River. The guest speaker and recipient of the Guardian Eagle Award is Will Jimeno. A Port Authority Police Officer who survived the 9/11 attacks and later received the Port Authority’s Medal of Honor, Jimeno is also an avid bowhunter and inspirational speaker.
Toxey Haas, a 2009 inductee, will be in attendance and help with the induction ceremony along with other past honorees. The Nashville Bass Pro Shops store will host a meet and greet for the public at the store on Friday August 23 from 5-7 p.m. Two lucky attendees will receive tickets to the induction ceremony valued at $85 each.
