“No matter where you live, but especially here in the South where the ducks have received significant pressure throughout their migration, blind positioning and construction is very important. Something I feel is crucial is to make sure the blind’s opening is facing away from the sun. You want the sun behind the blind to reduce glare and to keep the ducks from seeing inside. Another important factor to consider is wind direction. Now, you can’t always get this perfect, but if you take the time to track and study prevailing wind directions during waterfowl season, you can position your blind accordingly. Ducks like to land into wind, and blinds that are positioned this way increase hunter success. And, of course, you can’t overlook the importance of camouflage. Most duck blinds stick out of the ground several feet, and if you don’t want ducks flaring from them, you better take concealment to the extreme. Pay attention to the vegetation surrounding your blind and try to use that vegetation to blend the blind in as much as possible. The more natural you can make the blind, the more ducks you will kill from it.
